Target Audience

This seminar addresses issues most relevant to experienced mental health professionals treating the individual whose compulsive collection of items or pets interferes with daily functioning, constitutes a safety hazard, or results in cruel or neglectful treatment f animals. Public health, animal welfare, law enforcement, and justice system professionals may also benefit.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:
1. Understand the characteristics, types, and impacts of pathological hoarding
;
2. Recognizecognitive distortions common to the hoarding client;
3. Be able to identify and develop a treatment strategy for the client that hoards;
4. Be aware of how to avoid common treatment errors and complications.

Sheralyn Cox, MSW, Ph.D.

Sherry has maintained a private psychotherapy practice since 1974 and has obtained specialized post-graduate training in trauma disorders. She is a member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the International Society for the Study of Dissociation, the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders, and the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. She is certified in clinical hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, for which she is also an approved teaching consultant.

Continuing Education Credits

Psychotherapy Associates is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. 5.5 CE hours will be issued. Psychotherapy Associates maintains responsibility for the program.

This seminar meets criteria of an approved 11 hour continuing education program for Nebraska Licensed Mental Health Practitioners.
